About Volunteers
Volunteers are the heartbeat of California’s hospitals, working tirelessly to help hospitals run smoothly — staffing gift shops, answering phones, working together with staff, and more. The California Volunteer Leadership Network connects volunteer leaders, administrators, and other community representatives throughout the state. Together, network members help shape policies and standards for volunteer activities in hospitals and health systems.

In April 1974, President Richard Nixon signed Presidential Proclamation 4288, creating National Volunteer Week. Every year since then, each president has issued a new proclamation commemorating this celebration of those who give freely of their time to help others.

California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems is hosting two mini-conference events February 2025. The one-day in-person events will include a follow-up presentation on managing your volunteer workforce with Erika Frank, networking opportunities, future educational offerings discussion and more.
