About Volunteers

Volunteers are the heartbeat of California’s hospitals, working tirelessly to help hospitals run smoothly — staffing gift shops, answering phones, working together with staff, and more. The California Volunteer Leadership Network connects volunteer leaders, administrators, and other community representatives throughout the state. Together, network members help shape policies and standards for volunteer activities in hospitals and health systems.

2025 California Hospital Volunteer Leadership Conference

The 2025 California Hospital Volunteer Leadership Conference, in its 62nd year, will be held in-person at the Sharp Prebys Innovation and Education Center in San Diego, September 15-16, 2025.

The intended audience is volunteer leaders, volunteers, paid staff who manage volunteer programs, community partners, and inter-professional peers looking to expand their services with volunteer programs.

Volunteer Workforce – Legal & Compliance Virtual Series

CAHHS is hosting a Volunteer Workforce – Legal & Compliance virtual web series with Erika Frank. The sessions are intended to be interactive, utilizing member submitted case studies – summary, background information, approach, and results – followed by overview of risk factors and legal impact to the organization. Each session allows for Q&A and member open discussion.

All session times are 90-minutes, 12 – 1:30 p.m.

Registration will be available as the date nears.

2025 California Hospital Volunteer Leadership Mini-Conference

California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems is hosting two mini-conference events February 2025. The one-day in-person events will include a follow-up presentation on managing your volunteer workforce with Erika Frank, networking opportunities, future educational offerings discussion and more.

Registration will be available January 2025; a minimal fee applies. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

2025 California Hospital Volunteer Mid-Day Meet-Up

CAHHS hosts 90-minute monthly virtual networking sessions for California hospital members. Held the second Thursday of the month, these Zoom sessions will provide an opportunity to connect and network with professionals, peers, and other volunteer leaders. Discuss your current challenges, topics of interest, and share resources.

Hospital Volunteers from Across the State Convene in San Diego

What’s happening: The 2024 California Hospital Volunteer Leadership Conference was held Sept. 16-17 in San Diego. More than 150 people attended, including volunteers, volunteer leaders, paid volunteer leaders, community partners, and others.  

What else to know: Sessions focused on support and best practices for hospital volunteer programs, collecting metrics to tell the story of hospital volunteers, and the unique skills and benefits volunteers bring to health care teams.
