HQI and AQIPS Will Host 2024 Patient Safety Evaluation System Virtual Summit
What’s happening: Hospital Quality Institute and the Alliance for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety will host the Patient Safety Evaluation System 2024 Virtual Summit on May 21-22 from 8 a.m. to noon (PT).
What else to know: The summit will provide information on how to improve communication internally and with patients and strengthen patient care delivery. Registration is open.
Provisions of Prescription Error Legislation to Take Effect
What’s happening: Certain provisions in Assembly Bill (AB) 1286 (Haney, D-San Francisco) become effective Jan. 1, 2024. The California State Board of Pharmacy encourages licensees to immediately take steps for compliance.
What else to know: The new law establishes a requirement for the reporting of medication errors that occur in the outpatient setting to an entity that will be approved by the board. The Enforcement and Compounding Committee (ECC) will begin its evaluation of entities in the coming months.
FDA to Host Webinar on Proposed Rule for Laboratory Developed Tests
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will hold a webinar at 10 a.m. (PT) on Oct. 31 to discuss its proposed rule for laboratory developed tests (LDTs).
California Dispensers Must Use New Reporting Format Starting Aug. 1
Starting Aug. 1, 2024, all California dispensers of controlled substances will be required to report dispensations to the controlled substance utilization review and evaluation system (CURES) using version 4.2B of the American Society of Automation in Pharmacy (ASAP) format. On and after this date, data submitted using the current CURES ASAP version 4.1 format will no longer be accepted.
Drug Enforcement Administration Extends Telemedicine Rules Through End of 2024
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has extended its COVID-19 pandemic rules for prescribing controlled substances via telemedicine through Dec. 31, 2024. The regulation is effective Nov. 11.
FDA Issues Proposed Rule on Laboratory Developed Tests
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published a proposed rule on the regulation of laboratory developed tests (LDTs). Comments on the proposed rule are due Dec. 4.
