AHA Members Encouraged to Register for Webinar on Preventing Duplication of FEMA Benefits

The American Hospital Association (AHA) will hold an AHA members-only webinar with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. (PT) to discuss a proposed process and draft methodology for reviewing hospital public assistance projects for potential duplication of benefits with patient care revenue. Registration is required.  

Data Reporting Will Transition to CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network in Mid-December

In mid-December, COVID-19 data will be reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). The NHSN will assume responsibility for collecting the data when the Department of Health and Human Services’ contract with TeleTracking expires on Dec. 31.  

Disproportionate Share Hospital Eligibility for 2022-23 Data Corrections Due on Sept. 12

On Aug. 1, the Department of Health Care Services notified district hospitals and private hospitals of their tentative eligibility for disproportionate share hospital (DSH) and virtual DSH, also known as DSH replacement, for fiscal year 2022-23. Hospitals have until Sept. 12 to review their DSH eligibility determination and may correct and resubmit their data if they believe it to be inaccurate. 

Medicare Advanced and Accelerated Payment Recoupment Ends in September, Watch for Demand Letters from Noridian

Hospitals and providers who received Medicare Advanced and Accelerated Payments (MAAP) were loaned the funds for 29 months from the date the funds were received. Hospitals that have not fully repaid the amount should be on the watch for a “demand letter” from Noridian requesting any outstanding balance after the 29th month.  

COVID-19 Tracker Update Includes New Retroactive Reporting Feature

CHA has worked closely with the California Department of Public Health to create a process that will allow for retroactive weekend and holiday COVID-19 reporting at the state level. To allow for this functionality, CHA is updating the COVID-19 tracker within SmartSheet. These changes will go live on Aug. 24, and hospitals will be able to report retroactively starting Aug. 29.
