Kaiser Health News Surveys Hospitals on Patient Billing Policies

The American Hospital Association (AHA) updated members on Aug. 11 that Kaiser Health News has begun contacting some hospitals and health systems as part of a survey on financial assistance and billing and collections policies. The project is being produced in partnership with NPR and will be featured online and on radio later this year, with surveyed hospitals being identified by name.  

HRSA Awards Funding to Address Workforce Shortages and Access in Rural Communities

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has  awarded nearly $60 million to programs addressing workforce shortages and access to quality health care in rural communities. California received five awards totaling $2,649,716 for the Rural Residency Planning and Development (RRPD) Program and Small Health Care Provider Quality Improvement Program.  

CHA Asks CMS for Clarification on Forthcoming Discharge Planning Guidance

On Aug. 4, CHA sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) urging the agency to issue interpretive guidelines on the discharge planning requirements for short-term acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, long-term care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, inpatient psychiatric facilities, and home health agencies.
