Senate Passes Democratic Reconciliation Bill
On Aug. 7, the U.S. Senate passed the Democratic budget reconciliation bill, the Inflation Reduction Act (H.R. 5376), which includes provisions on health care, climate, and tax policies. The roughly $740 billion party-line package passed 51-50, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued its federal fiscal year (FFY) 2023 inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) and long-term care hospital (LTCH) PPS final rule.
CHA Issues Summary of CY 2023 Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule, Specialty Tables
CHA has issued a three-part, members-only summary and specialty impact analysis, prepared by Health Policy Alternatives, Inc. (HPA), of the calendar year 2023 physician fee schedule (PFS) proposed rule. Comments are due to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services by 2 p.m. (PT) on Sept. 6.
CHA Urges California Congressional Delegation to Assist with Securing FEMA Funding
On Aug. 2, CHA sent a letter to the California congressional delegation urging members to assist in securing reimbursement for hospitals’ pandemic expenses from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Applications Being Accepted for Behavioral Health Grant Program
The California Department of Health Care Services is accepting applications for its Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program Round 4: Children and Youth grant. Applications are due no later than Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. (PT).
CalBridge Program Accepting Applications on An Ongoing Basis
In July, the CalBridge Behavioral Health Navigator Program announced the latest list of over 80 California hospitals to receive over $9 million in grants. The grants support emergency departments (EDs) becoming primary access points for the treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
