CMS Issues Revised Guidance on Nursing Home Training Requirements

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued revised guidance related to waivers of the Nurse Aide Training Competency and Evaluation requirements.

CMS will grant individual, statewide, and county waivers to facilities where barriers exist to testing and training for temporary nurse aide certification during the ongoing public health emergency (PHE), which is currently set to expire Oct. 13, but is expected to be renewed for an additional 90 days.

CMS will grant these waivers only while the declaration of a COVID-19 PHE is still in effect. If the PHE ends during or before the granted period of waiver for a facility, state, or county, the facility’s waiver will also end.
