DRG Program Payment System Update Includes ICD-10 Procedure and Diagnosis Codes

The Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) Program payment system has been updated to include the ICD-10 procedure and diagnosis codes released by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on Jan. 1.  

Providers receiving a DRG inpatient hospital claim denial with RAD code 9124 (diagnosis code missing or invalid) may void and resubmit claims for payment. Email DRG@dhcs.ca.gov with any DRG questions.

Due to events this past year, many adults and children have experienced some level of collective trauma as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. For those who need behavioral health care, CalHOPE, a multi-media campaign launched in June 2020, connects people impacted by COVID-19 to free outreach, crisis counseling, and support services.

As the July 1 deadline approaches for submitting hospital supplier diversity reports to the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), CHA has developed FAQs to assist hospitals in preparing their reports on minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprise procurement efforts. In addition, more information is available in this CHA on-demand webinar featuring OSPHD staff and guidance and suggested templates for hospitals and systems from OSHPD.

Every year in May, the country celebrates National Hospital Week — a time to reflect on and appreciate the so many ways hospitals support the needs of their communities, health and otherwise. 

This year’s theme is Hope Through Healing, which is something hospitals take pride in providing every year, but it takes on extra meaning considering what’s taken place since 2020’s celebration 12 months ago.
