CHA Releases Issue Paper on Hospital Disaster Preparedness
CHA has published an issue paper titled Disaster Preparedness: A Way of Life for California Hospitals, describing federal and state requirements for hospitals and how they work every day to be ready for disasters of all kinds, including earthquakes.
Manufacturer Places Hold on Surgical Gowns, Plans Recall
Cardinal Health has recently announced a hold on Level 3 surgical gowns, and Presource procedure packs containing the gowns, because it is unable to ensure their sterility. The company, which also said it intends to issue a recall, is working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to resolve the issue, and directs customers to their sales representatives to obtain lot numbers of affected items.

Court Rules HHS Can Enforce New Liver Allocation Policy
A federal court has ruled that the Department of Health & Human Services can enforce the new liver allocation policy — the Acuity Circle Model — while a pending lawsuit is in federal court. CHA has long supported this important policy and applauds the court decision.
Department of Fair Employment and Housing Updates Sexual Harassment Prevention Training FAQs
The Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) has updated its FAQs to reflect a new law — Senate Bill 778 (2019) — that extends the deadline for complying with new anti-harassment training requirements from Jan. 1, 2020, to Jan. 1, 2021.
Updated Vaccination Statements Available From CDC
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated vaccine information statements on Jan. 8 for adenovirus, anthrax, and rabies vaccines. Federal law requires that health care providers give the relevant vaccine information statement to each patient (or parent/legal representative) who is vaccinated.
CDC Alerts Providers of High Influenza Activity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has notified clinicians that influenza activity nationwide is high and projected to remain elevated for several more weeks.
New Employment Arbitration Ban Blocked Until Jan. 31
A new law banning pre-dispute employment arbitration agreements, set to take effect Jan. 1, was temporarily blocked last month by a lawsuit challenging its validity. At a Jan. 10 hearing, the temporary restraining order was extended to Jan. 31.
