Updated Vaccination Statements Available From CDC

For CEOs, CNOs

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated vaccine information statements on Jan. 8 for adenovirus, anthrax, and rabies vaccines. Federal law requires that health care providers give the relevant vaccine information statement to each patient (or parent/legal representative) who is vaccinated.

The CDC provides the informational handouts in more than 40 different languages at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/vis. A complete discussion of vaccination handouts, consent, and required documentation is available in CHA’s Consent Manual — A Reference for Consent and Related Health Care Law.

Ideally, providers should begin using the updated statements immediately; however, CDC has stated that existing stocks may be used until depleted. To subscribe to the CDC’s email notification service about vaccine information statements, go to the website noted above and click “Get Email Updates.”
