HCAI Publishes List of Hospitals That Must Submit Report by Sept. 30 or Face $5,000 Penalty

What’s happening: The Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) recently published a list of hospitals that are required to submit a health equity report to the department by Sept. 30, as mandated by Assembly Bill 1204 (2021).

What else to know: Each individual hospital listed must submit a separate report to HCAI — even those that operate under a consolidated license. Failure to submit a report by the deadline could result in a $5,000 penalty per hospital.

While HCAI recognizes that hospitals under a consolidated license often gather data collectively — instead of by individual facility — the department still requires individual submissions from each hospital. HCAI acknowledges that it may receive duplicate reports for hospitals operating under the same license, but will still enforce the requirement. For more information, visit the HCAI website.

To assist hospitals in meeting this requirement, the Hospital Quality Institute has launched a program to automate reporting; participating hospitals will receive a report that is 95% complete, requiring only minor updates before submission to HCAI.
