A webinar about the recent syphilis outbreaks and screening for the disease in a high-risk emergency department population is set for Nov. 16.

In the webinar, scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon PT, attendees will learn about best practices and recent results from UC Davis Health, whose emergency department has screened high-risk patients for syphilis since 2018.

Attendees will learn about populations at risk for syphilis in California, discuss screening recommendations, and share best practices for screening and management of syphilis.

Dr. Larissa May, professor of emergency medicine and director of emergency department antibiotic stewardship at UC Davis Health, will be the speaker.

Syphilis is a major public health concern in California that’s been aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A complimentary continuing education unit will be provided to dues-paying member hospitals of the Hospital Quality Institute, CHPSO Patient Safety Organization, CHA, or any of the regional hospital associations in California.
