What’s happening: The Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP) and Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology issued a final rule to advance interoperability and improve information sharing among patients, providers, payers, and public health authorities.

What’s happening: The California Health Care Foundation’s new playbook shares actionable recommendations to help leadership and frontline staff effectively coordinate, collaborate, and partner on managing the discharge of patients who remain in hospitals for extended stays.   

What else to know: Using four vignettes of fictional patients with complex needs who are awaiting discharge, the playbook demonstrates how Medi-Cal benefits and services can be used to “facilitate a person-centered discharge.”  

DHCS Takes Steps to Expedite Access to Enhanced Care Management

What’s happening: Effective Jan. 1, 2025, Medi-Cal managed care plans (MCPs) must implement presumptive authorization arrangement with select providers of enhanced care management (ECM). 

What else to know: The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is releasing updates to the ECM presumptive authorization policy parallel to the ECM Referral Standards that, together, are designed to ease the administrative burden of the referral and authorization process on ECM providers and community referral partners.
