What’s happening: The Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP) and Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology issued a final rule to advance interoperability and improve information sharing among patients, providers, payers, and public health authorities.
What else to know: In future rulemaking, the ASTP will finalize additional policies included in the proposed rule.
The final rule:
- Finalizes a new part of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) for provisions related to the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) in 45 CFR Part 172. These final provisions further implement the Public Health Service Act section 3001(c)(9) as added by the Cures Act and provide greater transparency of TEFCA processes
- Makes no changes to TEFCA Manner Exception and adopts the TEFCA-related definitions as proposed
