Reminder: First Hospital Equity Report Due Sept. 30

What’s happening: The first Hospital Equity Measures Report under Assembly Bill (AB) 1204 (2021) is due to the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) by Sept. 30. The reports must also include a plan to prioritize and address disparities for vulnerable populations identified in the submitted data.

What else to know: The Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) has developed a program to assist hospitals in developing these reports.

Hospitals are required to submit these reports — for measures on patient access, quality, and outcomes by race, ethnicity, language, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity, and payer — to HCAI annually. HQI can assist hospitals’ compliance by:

  • Providing an HCAI-compliant report in a ready-to-upload format (more than 95% complete)
  • Integrating data from existing sources to avoid custom data pulls
  • Preparing core measures based on tested algorithms and integrating structural measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
  • Stratifying by all variables possible based on the source data
  • Identifying the top 10 disparities and providing a template for the 10 fields hospitals must supply to HCAI

To learn more, join HQI’s webinar on May 28 from 10-11 a.m. (PT). In addition, see HCAI’s Hospital Equity Data Toolkit, a collection of resources for hospitals that outline best practices to enhance demographic health care quality data collection, analysis, reporting, and equity planning.
