CHA has sent a letter to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) regarding post-hospital access to skilled-nursing facilities (SNFs). In the letter, CHA makes several recommendations, including:
Developing and issuing statewide guidance on SNF admission practices and policy, in the form of an All-Facilities Letter
Requiring SNFs to submit admissions and capacity data as part of their daily reporting
Developing a SNF Access Task Force by convening representatives from hospitals, SNFs, local health departments, and others to review and develop sound practices and policies for safe hospital-to-SNF care transitions.
The Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) is a non-profit organization committed to provide timely, accurate information and data reports for California hospitals to help them continually improve patient care. The Data Management and Analytics Staff at HQI collaborate to design, implement, integrate, and maintain systems of data acquisition to provide analytics for supporting hospital safety and quality improvement activities. The federal Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) has issued a report that concludes that Medicare overpaid acute care hospitals $267 million over a two-year period, due to improper coding of the inpatient claim when the beneficiaries resumed home health (HH) services within three days of discharge.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will host a webinar on Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. (PT) to preview Care Compare, the updated website for quality information that will standardize and combine eight existing Compare sites.
On Monday, CHA issued an alert urging hospitals to write and call — by Aug. 24 — their assemblymember, and ask them to support Senate Bill (SB) 758 (Portantino, D-La Cañada Flintridge) related to the 2030 seismic mandate, and oppose SB 977 (Monning, D-Carmel) giving the Attorney General unprecedented oversight over hospital transactions. CHA has developed a template letter and background documents about both bills for hospitals’ use.
