CMS Issues FFY 2020 Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility PPS Proposed Rule
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued the proposed rule for the inpatient rehabilitation facility prospective payment system (IRF PPS) for federal fiscal year (FFY) 2020. If finalized, the provisions would be effective Oct. 1, 2020.
DHCS Releases 2017-18 Phase 2 Volume Charts for Hospital Fee Directed Payments
Last Friday, the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) released state fiscal year (SFY) 2017-18 Phase 2 encounter volume charts for the Hospital Fee Program to all health plans and hospitals. The data cover Jan. 1 – June 30, 2018, and are available via the secure file transfer protocol site.
Hospitals to Receive Cycle 9 FFS Payments, Managed Care Payment Schedules
Earlier this month, the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) collected from hospitals the fees associated with the Cycle 9 fee-for-service (FFS) payments. As previously shared, hospitals will receive the corresponding FFS payment on April 22.
Comment Deadline Extended for Interoperability Proposed Rules

CMS Approves Hospital Fee Program Managed Care Rates
This week, the Department of Health Care Services shared four approval letters, dated April 10, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). While these letters mention approval is for state fiscal year 2016-17, the rates approved only include the Hospital Fee Program for June 1 to Dec. 31, 2016.
EMSA Issues Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for Alternate Destination, Paramedic Practice
The Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMSA) has issued proposed regulations that, when finalized, will allow emergency medical services providers to transport patients to the hospital or other care setting that best meets the patient’s needs. The proposed regulations address paramedic training and establish other requirements for alternative destination protocols.
