CHA Issues Draft Comments on Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Proposed Rule
CHA has issued its draft comments on the Medicaid fiscal accountability regulation proposed rule, which would revise the Medicaid program. Included in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) proposal are changes to the rules for states to finance their non-federal share of Medicaid costs and calculate their associated upper payment limit, as well as new reporting requirements.
CHA Issues Draft Comments on Health Plan Price Transparency Proposed Rule
CHA has issued its draft comments on the proposed rule that would establish a number of new price transparency requirements for health plans. The regulation, proposed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) along with the departments of Labor and Treasury, is intended to build on finalized price transparency requirements for hospitals and reflect President Trump’s June 24 executive order.
CDPH Issues Notice on Mandated Fines for Hospitals Not in Compliance With Nurse Staffing Ratios
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued All Facilities Letter 20-04, detailing the new administrative penalties it will enforce for general acute care hospitals that fail to comply with nurse-to-patient staffing ratios, and clarifying certain provisions of the requirements.

CHA Releases Issue Paper on Hospital Disaster Preparedness
CHA has published an issue paper titled Disaster Preparedness: A Way of Life for California Hospitals, describing federal and state requirements for hospitals and how they work every day to be ready for disasters of all kinds, including earthquakes.
Manufacturer Places Hold on Surgical Gowns, Plans Recall
Cardinal Health has recently announced a hold on Level 3 surgical gowns, and Presource procedure packs containing the gowns, because it is unable to ensure their sterility. The company, which also said it intends to issue a recall, is working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to resolve the issue, and directs customers to their sales representatives to obtain lot numbers of affected items.
