Medicare Promoting Interoperability Program Payment Adjustment Reconsiderations Due by Dec. 3

For CFOs, finance & reimbursement staff

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

Eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) may submit a request for reconsideration if the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) determined that the eligible hospital or CAH did not meet the Medicare Promoting Interoperability Program requirements for the annual payment determination.

CMS notified hospitals that did not successfully demonstrate meaningful use of certified electronic health record technology that they will be subject to a negative payment adjustment. If a provider believes the determination was in error, an application for a payment adjustment reconsideration may be submitted to CMS.

Applications must be attached to an email and sent to qnetsupport@hcqis.org with the subject line “2022 Eligible Hospital Hardship Reconsideration Request” or “Critical Access Hospital FY 2020 Reconsideration Request” by Dec. 3. If approved, this payment adjustment reconsideration is valid for the relevant year’s payment adjustment only.

Application forms are available below for hospitals wishing to apply for a reconsideration. Please review the instructions and fill out the form completely before submitting.

More information about payment adjustments and hardship information is available on the CMS website.
