Federal Public Health Emergency Extended Until Mid-October

On July 15, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) renewed the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) declaration for another 90 days, extending it until Oct. 13.

The renewal ensures regulatory flexibilities like space waivers and special rules for telehealth tied to the declaration remain in place for providers. HHS continues to assert that it will provide states with at least 60 days’ notice prior to the termination or expiration of the PHE in the future.
