What’s happening: As of May 5, responsibility for influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) surveillance will move from the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH’s) Immunization Branch to its Coronavirus Control Branch.
What else to know: This oversight includes epidemiologic investigations, laboratory testing, and clinical and infection control issues.
The Immunization Branch will continue to:
- Distribute immunizations through existing programs
- Communicate updates on immunization guidance, including influenza and RSV immunizations
- Conduct surveillance and outbreak response activities for other vaccine-preventable diseases, including measles
