The California Department of Public Health Office of AIDS and STD Control Branch have released a Dear Colleague letter that identifies opportunities to increase testing for HIV, hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specifically, two strategies are described. First, expand routine testing for HIV, hepatitis C, and syphilis when people seek in-person care in emergency departments and urgent care clinics. And second, when in-person HIV, hepatitis C, and STD testing options become limited, increase the use of self-testing and home specimen collection for these conditions.
