CDPH Issues AFL on COVID-19 Therapeutics in SNFs

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued All Facilities Letter (AFL) 22-20, which communicates that all skilled-nursing facility (SNF) residents should be considered eligible to receive treatment for mild-to-moderate COVID-19 and should be evaluated by a prescribing clinician for consideration of COVID-19 therapeutics.  

CDPH Ends Weekly COVID-19 Testing for Unvaccinated Individuals

After months of CHA and hospitals inquiring about the requirement to test unvaccinated workers, on Sept. 13, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced that it is ending COVID-19 policies that required weekly testing for unvaccinated individuals in high-risk workplaces — including hospitals, other health care and congregate settings, and schools. While weekly testing requirements are ending, CDPH is encouraging employers to continue providing testing resources for their staff.    

CHA Responds to FEMA’s Proposed Methodology for Preventing Duplication of Benefits

On Sept. 13, CHA provided feedback to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on its voluntary methodology for reviewing hospital public assistance projects for duplication of benefits with patient care revenue from third-party payers and requested that FEMA conduct duplication of benefits reviews on an expedited basis.  

DHCS Releases Private Hospital-Directed Payment Encounter Files

On Sept. 9, the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) uploaded three new hospital-directed payment encounter files, available via the Secure File Transfer Protocol site. It is important for hospitals to download these files as soon as possible, as the site is only intended for file transfers, not ongoing storage, and uploaded files will be deleted within 45 days.

CHA Issues Summaries of FFY 2023 IPPS and LTCH PPS Final Rule

CHA has issued comprehensive summaries of the federal fiscal year (FFY) 2023 inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) and long-term care hospital (LTCH) PPS final rules. The policy and payment provisions in the final rules are effective for FFY 2023 discharges, beginning Oct. 1.
