CHA Meets With CMS Administrator Berwick in Washington, D.C.

CHA joined 25 members of the Alliance for Patient Care, a coalition of health care providers, health plans and patient advocates, for several meetings in Washington, D.C., this week to urge the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to reject California’s proposed cuts to Medi-Cal.
CHA President/CEO C. Duane Dauner and Marcia Hall, CEO of Sharp Coronado Hospital and Healthcare Center, met with CMS Administrator Donald Berwick, MD, and CMS Deputy Administrator Cindy Mann for more than an hour.

CHA submitted comments on February 18th to SEC. CHA urges SEC to clarify that all hospital governing board members, and employees who seek bond financing from state or local authorities, are exempt from the registration requirement or that a clear exclusion be applied.

Proposed Rule on Patient Notification

On February 2, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services published a proposed rule that would require certain Medicare-certified providers and suppliers to notify their Medicare patients in writing of their right to file a written complaint with a Quality Improvement Organization.

CHA submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) this week regarding establishing an independent review process for assessing appropriate physician supervision levels for individual outpatient therapeutic services.

CHA Expresses Concerns on NQF Draft Standards for Serious Reportable Events

In a recent comment letter, CHA commended the National Quality Forum (NQF) on improvements to its draft standards for serious reportable events; however, CHA also expressed serious concerns about the lack of specificity of some of the measure definitions.
The NQF report is updated every four years and sets national standards for data collection and public reporting of serious reportable events.
After reviewing comments, NQF will release a revised report before the end of January, and NQF members, including CHA, will vote on the report.

California Democrats Call on Administration to Stop Cuts in Proposed IPPS Rule

Led by Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-CA), 14 members of the California Democratic congressional delegation sent a letter this week to President Obama urging the administration to alter its proposed inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) rule, which would decrease Medicare hospital payments by as much as $300 million in California for fiscal year (FY) 2011.

The website provides information on ACA implementation, quality rankings for local health care providers and information on preventive services.
