Updated Patient Vaccine Statements Released

For CEOs, CNOs

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released updated vaccine information statements for recombinant zoster, MMR, MMRV, varicella, and live zoster. Federal law requires that health care providers give the relevant vaccine information statement to each patient (or parent/legal representative) who is vaccinated.

The CDC provides informational handouts in more than 40 different languages on its website. A complete discussion of vaccination handouts, consent, and required documentation is found in CHA’s Consent Manual — A Reference for Consent and Related Health Care Law.

Ideally, providers should begin using the updated statements immediately; however, CDC has stated that existing stocks may be used until depleted. To subscribe to the CDC’s email notification service about vaccine information statements, see the “Get Email Updates” on the agency’s homepage.
