U.S House Holds Multiple Hearings on Hospital Issues

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

CHA thanks members for responding to the targeted alert calling for hospitals to contact their congressional representatives ahead of the four House subcommittee hearings on transparency, disproportionate share hospital (DSH) payments, outpatient payments, 340B, physician-owned hospitals, tax-exempt status, and many other hospital issues.

The American Hospital Association witnesses at the Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means hearings did an excellent job outlining the financial challenges hospitals are facing as they continue to care for their communities. Other witnesses before the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee focused on the need to find savings for the Medicare program by expanding site-neutral payments for outpatient procedures and allowing physician-owned hospitals.

CHA is grateful to Reps. Matsui, Eshoo, and Cárdenas, who each specifically called out their support for delaying the Medicaid DSH cuts as well as support for the 340B program.  In the Ways and Means Subcommittee hearing, Rep. Chu highlighted the need for flexibility for hospitals’ community benefit programs to best meet the needs of their communities.

CHA will be following up with the California delegation as these issues and bills advance through the legislative process.
