The Joint Commission Proposes Environmental Sustainability Requirements

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

The Joint Commission has proposed new accreditation standards that would require hospitals and critical access hospitals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Comments on the proposed standards are due May 3.

Specifically, the proposed standards would require that hospitals designate an individual responsible for the oversight of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, measure specific data points, develop goals and actions plans to reduce emissions in the area’s measures, and annually analyze data to determine if goals have been achieved.
