The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued a State Health Order on Hospital Surge on Jan. 5, adding an amendment to it on Jan. 6. The order is effective immediately and will continue for three weeks, unless rescinded.
There are two main components to the order. The first component delays low- and intermediate-acuity elective procedures (exempting children’s hospitals) for counties experiencing less than 10% ICU capacity. The second component mandates that all hospitals accept transfers “when capable and clinically appropriate.”
