Budget Bliss: Health Care at the Forefront

California’s $213 billion annual budget is something of a litmus test. Its value hinges greatly on one’s point of view, and depending on how you look at things, you can find plenty to be pleased with and plenty to be upset about.

In the latest iteration of Gov. Newsom’s spending plan, released earlier this month, health care leaders should find much to be happy about. Newsom makes significant new investments in care — hundreds of millions of dollars for priorities shared by hospitals. Among his noteworthy allocations:

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

How familiar are you with “white bagging?” Maybe you’ve heard of it but aren’t sure what it is or how it affects your facility. Here’s a quick explanation: white bagging means payers reimburse third-party pharmacies, which then distribute the medications to outpatient medical providers, removing your ability to make changes to a patients’ medication. CHA Submits Letter to HHS on 340B Program

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

CHA has submitted the attached letter to the Department of Health and Human Services in response to the 340B section of its Blueprint to Lower Drug Prices and Reduce Out-of-Pocket Costs.

In the letter, CHA argues that the administration’s focus on the 340B drug discount program as part of a plan to lower drug prices is misplaced. CHA describes the importance of the 340B program in providing essential medications and access to health care for California’s most vulnerable populations.

To highlight the program’s importance, CHA offers specific examples of how California’s hospitals have used the savings from the program to fund vital patient care services — including mobile health clinics, chemotherapy infusion centers, Hepatitis C treatment and inner-city primary care centers.

CHA encourages members to use the letter as a template to submit their own comments. Comments are due Monday, July 16 by 2 p.m. (PT) and may be submitted online.

“Homeless Guardians” Digital Series Shines Spotlight on Quiet, Compassionate Care Provided by California Hospitals

Frontline Caregivers Touch Thousands of Californians Experiencing Homelessness Every Year

SACRAMENTO (January 28, 2020) — Every day, a small army of women and men rise to help meet the needs of Californians experiencing homelessness. These are people who work at California’s hospitals: social workers, case managers, nurses, doctors and others. They are the frontline caregivers who dedicate themselves to tend to those in greatest need — those individuals who don’t know where they will sleep or when their next meal will be.

The compassionate care that these health care professionals provide to the most vulnerable among us is highlighted in a new digital series — “Homeless Guardians” — now available online at www.HomelessGuardians.com. The series is a special project of the California Hospital Association and Our Health California, a community of more than 1 million Californians dedicated to advancing access to quality, affordable care for all Californians.
