CDPH Updates Guidelines for Vaccine Eligibility

On March 11, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued three documents updating its guidance on prioritizing individuals for the COVID-19 vaccine. In addition to providing important clarifications on the implementation of vaccines for people with high-risk medical conditions or disabilities, the guidance adds categories of individuals in specified settings who are eligible to be vaccinated due to their increased risk. Details about the guidance and who is now eligible to receive the vaccine are available on CHA’s website.

Executive Order on Antitrust Doesn’t Recognize Importance of Systems

Last week, President Biden signed an executive order aimed at driving enhanced antitrust enforcement across multiple sectors of the U.S. economy, including several areas of focus within health care. Specifically, according to the fact sheet, the order encourages the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to enforce antitrust laws vigorously and “recognizes that the law allows them to challenge prior bad mergers that past administrations did not previously challenge.”

Last week, CHA held its Behavioral Health Care Symposium, attended by hundreds of clinical professionals, hospital leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders. Medical Certification Needed for Medical Baseline Programs

In 2020, the major power utilities in California waived the requirement for medical practitioners to certify a patient’s request to enroll in their medical baseline programs. However, this temporary waiver allowing customers to self-certify their eligibility to enroll ended on June 30, and a signature from a qualified medical practitioner is now required.
