CEO Message: In Your Service
Our hospital association — and I’d like to emphasize “our” here because it’s you, our members, who drive all we do — exists for one reason: to support your mission of care in California.
The Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) invites all California birthing hospitals to join its new Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Learning Community, a free two-year program comprised of webinars, virtual group forums, and one-on-one coaching to strengthen hospital approaches to mental health during the perinatal period. As the program is set to launch in February, hospitals are encouraged to enroll by Jan. 31.
The 2020 Health Care Labor Relations Summit, scheduled for May 6 in Los Angeles has been cancelled.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced a streamlined survey and certification process — to begin in March — for psychiatric hospitals, with the goal of ensuring efficient hospital inspections that protect patients while reducing burden for providers.
Beginning this year, Californians who don’t have health insurance will be required to pay a penalty. To help consumers understand the penalty they may owe if they forgo qualifying health coverage, the Franchise Tax Board has launched an individual mandate penalty estimator, as well as a penalty fact sheet that can be shared with consumers.
CHA has issued its draft comments on the Medicaid fiscal accountability regulation proposed rule, which would revise the Medicaid program. Included in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) proposal are changes to the rules for states to finance their non-federal share of Medicaid costs and calculate their associated upper payment limit, as well as new reporting requirements.
CHA has issued its draft comments on the proposed rule that would establish a number of new price transparency requirements for health plans. The regulation, proposed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) along with the departments of Labor and Treasury, is intended to build on finalized price transparency requirements for hospitals and reflect President Trump’s June 24 executive order.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued All Facilities Letter 20-04, detailing the new administrative penalties it will enforce for general acute care hospitals that fail to comply with nurse-to-patient staffing ratios, and clarifying certain provisions of the requirements.
