Providers with Multiple Service Locations Urged to Ensure Claims Data Exactly Match Enrollment Information

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will activate billing claims edits for outpatient providers with multiple service locations in July. Once CMS implements the July 2019 quarterly release, Medicare administrative contractors will be directed to permanently turn on edits and return claims that do not exactly match.

CHA has extended the deadline for its Advocacy Alert asking members to urge their assemblymembers to oppose Senate Bill (SB) 227, which would create an unreasonable, mandatory penalty system for hospitals that do not meet nurse staffing ratios. The deadline for letters is now 5 p.m. on June 11.

Beginning July 1, the California Department of Public Health will not accept payment for health facility license application fees until its Licensing & Certification Centralized Applications Branch validates that all required forms and supporting documentation have been received. Special Elections This Week Yield Legislative, Ballot Measure Results

This week’s special elections yielded important results for hospitals, including the defeat of a Los Angeles ballot measure that would have taxed hospitals. Measure EE, proposed by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), would have enacted a parcel tax (a type of property tax ) to generate money that would support smaller class sizes and staffing increases for the next 12 years. Hospitals in the LAUSD would have been subject to the new tax. 

Governor, Legislature Negotiate Several Health Care Issues Ahead of June 15 Budget Deadline

With the Legislature required to send the Governor a final budget no later than June 15, budget negotiations are in full swing at the Capitol. The budget conference committee will address the many discrepancies between proposals from the Senate, the Assembly, and the Governor, with plans to complete its work by the end of this weekend. 

CMS Issues Draft Guidance on Co-location Policies, Comments Due July 2

On May 3, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released draft guidance on co-location policies for hospitals that share space, staff, or services with another hospital or health care entity. The draft guidance was issued to clarify how CMS and state surveyors will evaluate these arrangements for compliance with the Medicare Conditions of Participation.

As previously reported in CHA News, extreme weather and wildfire threats may result in public safety power shutoffs by PG&E. To prepare for these power outages, hospitals can take part in PG&E’s Wildfire Safety webinar for hospitals, scheduled for June 7 from 9-10 a.m. (PT).
