Executive Order on Antitrust Doesn’t Recognize Importance of Systems

Last week, President Biden signed an executive order aimed at driving enhanced antitrust enforcement across multiple sectors of the U.S. economy, including several areas of focus within health care. Specifically, according to the fact sheet, the order encourages the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to enforce antitrust laws vigorously and “recognizes that the law allows them to challenge prior bad mergers that past administrations did not previously challenge.”

CHA has issued a members-only summary, prepared by Health Policy Alternatives, Inc., of the recently released proposed rule that proposes certain payment parameters and additional policy changes for health insurance issuers and the health insurance marketplaces (exchanges), applicable to the 2022 plan year and beyond. The proposed rule is intended to expand access to Affordable Care Act coverage through the exchanges.   

Biden Issues Executive Order to Promote Competition

On July 9, President Biden issued an executive order with the stated intent of promoting competition in the American economy. The order is wide-ranging and addresses agriculture, defense, financial services, information technology, telecommunications, and transportation as well as the health care sector.
