Bill to Allow Nurse Practitioners Independent Practice Authority Passes Assembly Committee
A CHA-supported bill that would allow nurse practitioners (NPs) to practice to the full extent of their education and training – AB 890 (Wood, D-Santa Rosa) – passed the Assembly Committee on Business and Professions today.

CMS Finalizes 2020 Payment Changes for Medicare Advantage and Part D Plans
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has finalized its policy and payment updates for Medicare Advantage (MA) and Part D plans for calendar year (CY) 2020. CMS estimates revenue for MA and Part D plans will increase by 2.53 percent for 2020, excluding an average 3.3 percent increase in risk scores.
CDC Issues Health Advisory About Influenza
Influenza activity remains high across the United States, according to a health alert recently issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC notes that the season is likely to last several more weeks and continues to recommend antiviral medications for influenza treatment, regardless of whether a patient received the influenza vaccine.

CDPH Issues Health Advisory About Measles Cases
A new health advisory from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) reminds providers to be aware of potential measles cases, as 16 cases have been reported in California since Jan. 1. CDPH notes that providers should not rule out a measles diagnosis based solely on patients reporting they previously received a measles immunization.
CHA DataSuite Releases Fourth Quarter 2018 Impact Analyses
CHA DataSuite has issued hospital-specific analyses showing the estimated impact of the federal fiscal year (FFY) 2020 Medicare inpatient Hospital-Acquired Condition (HAC) Reduction Program as well as the hospital Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Program, based on publicly available data and program rules established by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Independent Contractor Legislation Amended, Carves Physicians Out of Dynamex Test
Last week, Assembly Bill (AB) 5 (Gonzalez, D-San Diego) was amended to exempt physicians and several other classifications from the onerous Dynamex test for determining independent contractor status. CHA was instrumental in moving this forward.
