CDPH Releases California Health Advisory Update on Ebola
On July 18, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released a California Health Advisory Update on Ebola — one day after the World Health Organization declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo to be a public health emergency of international concern.
Upcoming Webinar to Explain Medication Profile Process for High-Risk Patients
The California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP) will host a webinar Aug. 1 to share updates about implementation of a new law — Senate Bill 1254 (Chapter 697, Statutes of 2018) — that requires hospitals to establish criteria for defining high-risk patients and complete a medication profile for those patients.
State Enforcement Actions Dashboard Makes Hospital Penalty Information More Publicly Accessible
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Licensing and Certification Program has published a State Enforcement Actions Dashboard that allows members of the public to search for hospital administrative penalties and medical information breach administrative penalties.
Hospitals Must Submit Attestations of 2030 Seismic Safety Deadline to OSHPD by Dec. 31
On July 17, the California Building Standards Commission certified emergency building standards proposed by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) to implement CHA’s sponsored bill from last year, Assembly Bill (AB) 2190 (Chapter 673, Statutes of 2018).
Advisory Group Meeting on Medi-Cal Pharmacy Carve-Out Set for July 24
CHA encourages members to participate in an upcoming meeting on the Governor’s Executive Order that would transition pharmacy services from Medi-Cal managed care plans into the fee-for-service delivery system by January 2021 — which will impact hospitals that participate in the 340B Drug Discount Program. The meeting will be held July 24 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Sacramento, and is designed to facilitate community awareness and provide a forum for stakeholder feedback.
9/11 First Responder Will Speak at CHA Disaster Preparedness Conference
For the first time, CHA’s Disaster Planning for California Hospitals conference will take place on Sept. 11. To honor those who gave everything they had — and those who continue to put their lives at risk — CHA has invited a Ground Zero 9/11 first responder, Glen Klein, to help us remember how that day has shaped our world.
Sutter Health Receives AHA Equity of Care Award
Sutter Health has been named an honoree of the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Equity of Care Award for its efforts to reduce health care disparities and further diversity and inclusion. The annual award recognizes hospitals and health systems that have moved beyond plans and achieved a high level of success in advancing diversity and equity through data collection, leadership, cultural awareness, and partnerships. The award will be presented July 25 at AHA’s Leadership Summit in San Diego.
CMS Offers Training for IRF, SNF Quality Reporting Programs
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will host two-day, in-person training programs for the skilled-nursing facility (SNF) and inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) quality reporting programs (QRPs). The ‘train the trainer’ event for SNF providers will take place Aug. 13 and 14, and Aug. 15 and 16 for IRFs.

CMS Issues FAQs for Psychiatric Hospitals on Complying with EMTALA
On July 2, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a memo to state survey agency directors including frequently asked questions (FAQs) that address common inquiries from psychiatric hospitals about compliance with the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).
