Financial Assistance Policies: Mandatory Changes by Year-End — Participant Information

Program originally recorded October 29, 2024.

Legislation recently signed by the Governor — Assembly Bill (AB) 2297 and Senate Bill (SB) 1061 — will require California hospitals to update their financial assistance policies and submit them to the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) by January 1, 2025, or face fines. Hospitals must also train their staff on policy changes and have updated documents translated and ready by January 1.

HCAI has been reviewing — and will continue to review — hospital financial assistance policies and issue fines for deficiencies it identifies. This webinar will describe common faults HCAI has been finding as well as its enforcement process.

Join CHA’s Vice President and Legal Counsel, Lois Richardson, and Stephanie Gross with Michael Shimada of Hooper, Lundy & Bookman, P.C. as they explain the changes in the law made by these two bills.
