Federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Extended Until Mid-April

On Jan. 11, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) renewed the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) declaration for another 90 days, extending it until April 11.

The renewal ensures regulatory flexibilities like space waivers and special rules for telehealth tied to the declaration remain in place for providers. HHS continues to assert that it will provide states with at least 60 days’ notice, which would occur mid-February, prior to the termination or expiration of the PHE declaration.
