DHCS Delays Implementation of Medi-Cal Rx Until April 1

For CFOs, pharmacy managers

Given the ongoing challenges associated with the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has decided to delay the full implementation of Medi-Cal Rx until April 1, 2021.

The decision to delay the implementation for three months was made after careful consideration with Magellan Medicaid Administration, Inc. In the interim, all current prescription drug service processes and protocols, both carried out by DHCS and Medi-Cal managed care plans, will remain unchanged and in place until Medi-Cal Rx launches.

DHCS will update the Medi-Cal beneficiary notice templates that were planned for release to Medi-Cal fee-for-service beneficiaries on or about Dec. 1, 2020, to include information about the new date of full implementation. DHCS has also notified managed care plans about the need to similarly update their respective 30-day notice and outreach campaign materials.
