Hospitals and health care systems have until Nov. 18 to apply for the Carolyn Boone Lewis Equity of Care Award.
The annual award recognizes hospitals and health care systems’ outstanding efforts in advancing equity of care to all patients, as well as lessons shared and progress made toward diversity, inclusion, and health equity.
The American Hospital Association’s Institute for Diversity and Health Equity recently announced revised application criteria for the award. The awards were redesigned so hospitals and health systems could apply to the category that best represents progress on their individual health equity journey.
It’s now expanded to acknowledge hospitals in three categories: transforming, emerging, and small/rural hospital excellence.
- Transforming – Recognizes a hospital system that is implementing strategies to influence equity in the surrounding community ecosystem
- Emerging – Recognizes a hospital that is leveraging the Health Equity Roadmap resources to dismantle structural barriers in their care delivery system and the communities they serve
- Small/Rural Hospital Excellence – Recognizes a hospital or health system that has demonstrated excellence in advancing health equity in rural or small communities
