What’s happening: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a new model aimed at improving maternal health.

What else to know: State Medicaid agencies can apply in spring 2024 for funding and technical assistance to participate in the model.

The Transforming Maternal Health Model will support participating state Medicaid agencies in developing a whole-person approach to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care for women with Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program coverage.

CMS expects to select up to 15 states to receive up to $17 million each to implement the model over the course of 10 years. The selected states will collaborate directly with managed care entities and providers to implement the model beginning in 2028.

More information is available in a model fact sheet and model web page.
