The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued several new resources to assist post-acute care (PAC) providers, including inpatient rehabilitation facility and long-term care hospital providers, in coding specific items required in patient assessment and the PAC quality reporting program (QRP).

Items are available at the links provided below or by visiting PAC QRP training pages on the CMS website. Short video tutorials address specific items from Section GG of PAC patient assessment instruments and use simulated patient scenarios to assist providers in coding the following items:

The new resources also include a short, animated “explainer” video for coding of A2121 and A2123.

In addition, CMS is offering cue cards to assist providers in coding the Brief Interview for Mental Status, Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2 to 9), and Pain Interview. The cue cards, which can be viewed or printed and are available in the downloads section of each setting’s QRP training page, are intended to be utilized as a supplemental communication tool to provide a visual reference for patients. Detailed instructions can be found in the setting-specific guidance manual.
