CMS Final Rule Updates Proficiency Testing Requirements Under CLIA

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have issued a final rule updating proficiency testing and referral requirements under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments. 

Provisions of the final rule are generally effective July 11, 2024; however, regulations related to laboratories performing tests of moderate complexity, as well as high complexity testing that also performs waived testing and proficiency testing enrollment, are effective Aug. 10, 2022.
