CHA has published its 2019 Report on Legislation, summarizing important state health care legislation enacted during the first year of the 2019-20 legislative session. Developed to help hospitals understand the implications of the year’s significant bills, the report also serves as a reference tool for the broad range of legislative activity that occurred this session.

Statutory changes become effective Jan. 1, 2020, unless otherwise noted. Each measure is categorized by subject and indicates which hospital team members should take necessary steps to come into compliance (see legend at bottom of each page). In addition, the laws are indexed by author, bill number, and staff role. Each bill number is linked to the relevant text from leginfo.legislature.ca.gov; to view the bill text, simply click the bill number preceding each description.
