CHA DataSuite Releases Analysis of Value-Based Purchasing Program for FFY 2024

CHA DataSuite has issued a hospital-specific analysis of the value-based purchasing (VBP) program.

The analysis is intended to provide hospitals a preview of the program’s potential impact for the federal fiscal year (FFY) 2024, based on the most recent publicly available data and program rules established by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). A report that compares actual FFY 2022 program performance to the estimated FFY 2024 program performance is included.

CMS is neither penalizing nor rewarding hospitals for the FFY 2022 and FFY 2023 VBP programs due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the FFY 2022 program, CMS did provide a subset of data for individual measures and the clinical outcomes domain but did not provide total performance score or adjustment factors, and therefore no impacts were calculated. CMS has yet to provide any data for the FFY 2023 program and therefore there is no FFY 2023 VBP performance data in this analysis.

For the FFY 2024 VBP program, performance periods are impacted by the extraordinary circumstances exception granted by CMS in response to the public health emergency, so no claims data or chart-abstracted data reflecting services provided from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2020, will be used in the calculations for the VBP program.

The FFY 2024 figures are estimates, based on CMS’ third quarter 2022 update of Care Compare.
