The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued All Facilities Letter (AFL) 20-83.2, which provides updated guidance about the interdisciplinary team (IDT) process to make treatment decisions for residents of skilled-nursing facilities who are unable to provide informed consent and without a health care decision maker.

The AFL announces the extension of the date by which facilities must identify a patient representative to participate in the IDT to Jan. 27, 2023, and clarifies the IDT’s authority to administer anti-psychotic medication and create or change certain orders.
