Education Brief

The CHA case manager committee identified a need — case managers needed additional training opportunities as well as ongoing support.  And case management leaders needed training tools that were accessible, cost-effective, and which could be customized to meet the unique needs of each individual and hospital. The needs were broad and diverse – from providing new case managers with foundational information, to training seasoned staff on special topics, to providing leadership with management skills. Care Excellence for Hospital Case Managers was developed to meet this critical need; the program design and content were guided every step of the way by key case manager leaders. The module-based curriculum takes a multi-pronged approach to train and improve the skills of care managers and the leadership that guides them. The information included in this training helps care management teams meet the needs of growing and diverse populations with special and complex needs, while decreasing costs and improving the quality of care.

The Care Excellence Curriculum addresses three critical needs:

  • Educating new case managers about the fundamentals of good case management
  • Enhancing the skills of current care managers and care coordinators with advanced courses and modules about specialty practice subject areas
  • Improving the mentoring and leadership skills of lead case managers and supervisors
