Urge Senate Health Committee to Support Seismic Extension Bill

Submit letters in support of Senate Bill (SB) 1432 (Caballero, D-Merced), jointly authored by a bipartisan coalition of senators. The bill offers important modifications to the 2030 seismic standards related to timing and financial support.

  1. Send your hospital’s support letter to Senate Health Committee Chair Senator Roth (D-Riverside) urging support of CHA’s sponsored bill on seismic requirements.
  2. Request that your community partners do the same.

The deadline to submit your letters to Senator Roth via the Legislature’s online portal has been extended to April 16. Please send your letters to Emily Schroeder, legislative assistant, at eschroeder@calhospital.org once submitted.

Earlier this year, CHA worked with a group of senators to introduce legislation — SB 1432 — that would help hospitals with a wide range of seismic compliance challenges. The bill would:

  • Extend the 2030 seismic compliance deadline
  • Address additional post-earthquake disaster preparedness requirements
  • Assess opportunities for financial support
  • Require the state to assess the financial and access impacts of the 2030 requirement
  • Address rural hospitals’ unique concerns
