Congress is back in session to complete important legislative work before year’s end. Urge lawmakers to support hospitals in the final days of the current term to help mitigate the alarming fiscal deterioration facing California hospitals and health systems and in particular a temporary, per diem payment for hospitals caring for patients who are awaiting discharge.

CHA is asking hospital leaders to call or email your U.S. representative by Dec. 23, and ask them to support hospitals in a year-end legislative package. Find your representative’s contact information in this online directory.

Background

Hospitals are experiencing intense fiscal strain as a result of severe workforce shortages, skyrocketing expenses, and woeful underpayment from Medicare and Medicaid, which have been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. With Congress back in session following the November midterm elections, CHA is asking hospitals leaders to urge Congress to support key priorities in a year-end legislative package to help mitigate the alarming fiscal deterioration facing California hospitals and health systems.

AHA Advocacy Day

The American Hospital Association (AHA) will hold an in-person Advocacy Day on Dec. 6 in Washington, D.C. AHA-member hospitals and health systems are encouraged to register for the event and meet with legislators to talk about the challenges facing their patients and communities.
