CEO Message

A New Era at the American Hospital Association

This week, Steve Walsh took the reins as the new President & CEO of the American Hospital Association — an organization with which CHA has long enjoyed a fruitful and collaborative relationship.

Steve was previously the President & CEO of the Massachusetts Hospital Association and will undoubtedly bring fresh ideas and perspective to his new role. From a message he shared earlier this week with hospital leaders across the country:

“This is a pivotal moment for healthcare. As you see every day, hospitals and health systems are navigating generational challenges. More is being asked of provider organizations and caregivers than ever before, with too many patients feeling the same frictions. Our only path is growing change from challenge — and organizations like yours have created opportunities everywhere. Your care innovations, partnerships and resilience are strengthening communities in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago. The AHA is at its best when it is mirroring that same balance of tradition and ambition.”

As AHA evolves, so will CHA — to perpetuate and build on the strong relationships we have with representatives on both sides of the aisle in Washington, D.C. California has always had an outsized impact on federal policy, with the largest congressional delegation in the nation: 52 representatives, 14 more than Texas in the No. 2 position.

With the pressing need to influence key policy decisions around Medicare, Medicaid, 340B, and more, the partnership and connection with AHA has never been more important and valuable.

Our team already has deep relationships with senior staff at AHA and as Steve begins to advance new opportunities, CHA will be a key ally to protect the vital work hospitals do every day.
