Life-Changing Kidney Transplant Gives Young Mom Newfound Strength

A rare pregnancy complication meant Alexis needed two kidney transplants — and the Sutter California Pacific Medical Center transplant team was there to help.

After Alexis experienced a rare pregnancy complication that caused acute kidney failure, she was on dialysis for five years before receiving a kidney transplant at Sutter’s California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). Although her health initially improved, Alexis needed a second transplant a few years later — made possible by a life-changing kidney donor and the CPMC transplant team’s outstanding care. Now, Alexis is back at the gym and supporting her daughter at soccer games. She remains grateful to CPMC and hopes to inspire others to become organ donors by sharing her story: “Because of a stranger’s gift, I get to be a mom, a wife, a daughter — and myself again.”
