Vice President Policy

The California Hospital Association (CHA) is the statewide leader representing and advocating the interests of hospitals, health systems, and other health care providers in California in the legislative and regulatory arenas.

General Summary

The Vice President Policy is responsible for managed care and reimbursement issues as well as a broad range of other legislative and regulatory policy issues. This position will collaborate as a team member with CHA staff, and member hospitals to address federal, state, and local regulations and policies that affect operations. This person will be a resource and provide assistance and guidance to members, staff, and selected committees.  Advocacy responsibilities include reviewing and monitoring assigned bills and draft regulatory language, preparing position letters and comments, providing testimony, and all other aspects of legislative and regulatory advocacy. 

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in health administration, business administration, or other relevant discipline is preferred

Minimum of five years’ relevant government agency or hospital operational experience preferred

Understanding of the federal and state regulatory process

Thorough understanding of the leadership challenges and processes inside hospitals

Experience and capability of communicating effectively at the CEO/Board of Directors level

Strong collaboration skills and being effective at making the best use of resources and galvanizing people to achieve the overall mission

Ability to effectively manage projects, turning concept into reality

Exceptional communication skills, including public speaking

Ability to manage dynamic and differing needs, interests, and viewpoints of multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, quickly evolving environment

High degree of initiative and problem solving skills
